High level information

When you login to the distribution service, you can find the promos addon under the Marketing tab. Then select ‘Add a Promotional Slot’. The placement options for your promotional slot are as follows.

Class:

  • Normal - This is the most common option for adding promotional slots
  • DFP -

Display: This is where you set what type of promo you are adding, and when you want it to appear.

  • Generic - This will appear in the edition selector of you app, next to the editions. It will remain here even when the user is logged in.
  • Subscription - This promo will appear until the user has bought a subscription from the app store.
  • Login - This promo will appear until the user has logged in to their account.

Action Link: This is the action you want to happen when the user clicks on the promo, you can include a live URL or an internal action within the app.

  • pugpig:// - This will open a page/popup within the app. This can be the ‘login’ (which will open the account login page), or subscribe (which will open the different subscription options available in the app store). If you are using more than one auth provider you would need to link to ‘login?CDN’ which will open the varying third party accounts.
  • http:// - Select this if you are linking to a http URL.
  • https:// - Select this if you are linking to a https URL.

Image:

  • Choose File - You can upload a .jpg file from your computer.
  • Add URL - Or you can include the URL of the promo image you want to use.

Publish: All promos are added to your preview feed, select this box if you want to add your promo to your live feed (include in your live app).

Title (optional): Give the promo a name (it is not user facing).

Summary (optional): Include a description of that promo.

Placement:

  • Hero - This will include the promo next to the edition covers in your edition selector, before the most recent edition cover.
  • ToC Hero - This will include the promo at the top of the Table of Contents.

Platforms:

  • For a landscape phone promo select iOS Phone. This will include the promo at the top of the phone*, above the editions.
  • For a portrait tablet promo, select iOS tablet, Android Phone and Android Tablet. This will include the promo on the left side* of the tablet/phone before the editions. (Android Phone also needs the tablet promo as it has a left to right navigation, unlike iOS phones that have top to bottom).

*If a standard Hero promo

Spacing (optional): For situations where multiple promos are required, this is the suggestion of distance between each promo. The placement is not absolute, but relative to each other. The spacing is interpreted as the number of covers.

  • Hero promo (large edition covers) - If already have a hero promo applied in the default position (before the most recent cover). Then you add another promo, and want this to appear 4 covers later, in this case the spacing would be “4”. If you wanted it to appear 2 covers later it would be “2”, etc. The spacing applies itself relative to the promo before it. So if you were to add a third promo, this would apply itself to the second promo, not the first. Therefore you can change the spacing between the second and third.
  • Hero promo (thumbnail edition covers) - If already have a hero promo applied in the default position (before the most recent cover). Then you add another promo, and want this to appear 4 editions later, in this case the spacing would be “2c”, for 2 columns*, each column having 2 editions. If you wanted it to appear 2 editions covers later it would be “1c”, etc. The spacing applies itself relative to the promo before it. So if you were to add a third promo, this would apply itself to the promo before it, not the first. Therefore you can change the spacing between the second and third.
  • Non-hero (thumbnail size) - If already have a hero promo applied in the default position (before the most recent cover). Then you want to add in a thumbnail promo, in the 5th position, you would add “4” for spacing, so that it appears after 4 editions. The spacing applies itself relative to the promo before it. So if you were to add a third promo, this would apply itself to the promo before it, not the first. Therefore you can change the spacing between the second and third.

*For phone promos, you would still apply 2c, even though the editions are in rows.

** If adding multiple promos, we recommend testing the spacing in preview before publishing, as the exact order of the promos is not guaranteed.
